Fastline Freight launches second service to Midlands

Fastline Freight has extended its service with the addition of a new route between Thamesport and the Midlands, complementing its existing service to the North East.

The new Midlands service is a direct response to customer demand and Fastline Freight completed its first commercial run on this route on August 16.

Fastline Freight will now operate a service five days a week using its three Class 56 locomotives. It will operate return trains between Thamesport and the new Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal, at Birch Coppice Business Park, and between Thamesport and the North East, via Doncaster Railport.

The addition of a new route comes only weeks after Fastline Freight announced it would include extra wagons on its North East service to accommodate the increase in container traffic.

Fastline’s Director of Logistics, Stephen Haynes, said Fastline Freight was attracting strong customer interest and the new service to the Midlands reflected the needs of the market.

“Fastline Freight is focused on delivering a high quality, reliable and efficient service that meets the needs of its customers,” said Stephen.

“Having only launched the service in June, we are working closely with our existing customers to ensure we provide the range of services they require.

“The addition of the Midlands route and the extra wagons demonstrates our commitment to providing a door-to-door service that is a reliable alternative to road haulage.”

The new Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal is situated alongside junction 10 of the M42 near Tamworth and provides Fastline Freight with an ideal location from which to organise onward transport for its containers.

Fastline Freight’s dedicated freight delivery centre is based in Doncaster in the Roberts Road depot. As part of the service, the team are able to arrange onward road transportation to the final destination.

Fastline’s three Class 56 locomotives (56301. 56302, 56303) and FEAB 60ft container flat wagons are based at Robert’s Road depot where all routine maintenance takes place.
