Considerate Contractors’ Gold award for Prismo
18/07/2006
Prismo Ltd, part of Jarvis’ Roads division, has won a Considerate Contractor Gold Award. The award was presented to Roads Managing Director Andrew Martin by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council at its Town Centre Partnership Customer Care Awards 2006. The Considerate Contractor Scheme recognises contractors who, whilst carrying out work on the Borough’s highways, have shown consideration for the needs of local residents and businesses. The scheme comprises a Code of Practice in which contractors are regularly monitored to ensure excellent standards are kept. Prismo received the Gold Award, for far exceeding the requirements of the Code Good Practice and providing excellent highways and paths maintenance as part of the Term Maintenance Contract with the council. The Managing Director of Jarvis’ Roads Division, Andrew Martin said: “Prismo prides itself on delivering the highest quality products and services to its clients, whether this be in an urban environment, such as Solihull, or on a major motorway scheme.” “Customer satisfaction, communication with the client, environmental sensitivity and leading quality standards are our benchmarks. We are thrilled to have received this award. Not only is it a reflection of what Prismo aspires to be, it is perhaps more importantly, a direct reflection of the quality and commitment of our staff." Solihull’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, Cllr Mrs Susan Gomm, said: "Members of the public expect and deserve consideration from those working in the streets, roads and building sites around them, and I am pleased that we are able to acknowledge contractors who are committed to providing a considerate service." All contractors working on the highway for both Solihull Council and Public Utilities are encouraged to join the Council’s Considerate Contractor Scheme, which has been going since 2004. The Code covers the following eight key points: - considerate - work must be carried out with consideration given to local people and businesses
- environment - noise must be kept to a minimum and pollution and waste must be managed
- cleanliness - all roads near site must be kept clean, dust to a minimum
- good neighbours - information available about the site, consultation with neighbours about work
- site tidiness - covers appropriate dress and behaviour of contractors as well as tidiness of site
- safety - work to be carried out with the utmost care for passers-by and neighbours, as well as workers
- responsible - all employees, contractors and others working on site understand and comply with the obligations of the code
- accountable - contact numbers to be displayed for the public to contact staff to take any immediate action necessary
This year gold awards have only been presented to three contractors Prismo Ltd, Solihull Council’s Operational Services and to T Maguire & Co Ltd.
