Jarvis plc announces new Chief Executive
19/06/2006
Jarvis plc today announces that Alan Lovell will step down as Chief Executive and leave the company at the end of this month (June). As planned, Alan will be succeeded by Richard Entwistle, who is currently the company's Chief Operating Officer. Alan joined Jarvis in October 2004 to lead the company's business recovery, focusing on the operational turnaround of its core businesses in the rail, plant and roads industries, and to undertake a complex financial restructuring. He indicated from the outset that he planned to leave the company once the restructuring was complete and the company had moved to its York headquarters. The major part of the Jarvis financial restructuring was completed in September 2005 and the company is now York-based. Richard Entwistle joined Jarvis plc as Chief Operating Officer in September 2005 with the remit to lead Jarvis' core operations. Working closely with Alan he has helped continue the drive for operational turnaround across the company. Richard is a Chartered Civil Engineer with a strong background in support services. He spent much of his early career with Shephard Hill Civil Engineering Ltd before joining Balfour Beatty in 1994 and Amey plc in 1996. He joined the main Board of Amey in 1997 with responsibility for Amey Rail, Amey Highways and later Tubelines. Executive Chairman of Jarvis, Steven Norris said: "Alan Lovell has made a quite outstanding and positive difference to Jarvis, having simultaneously achieved a turnaround in the operational performance of the business and completed one of the most challenging financial restructurings of recent times. "His enthusiasm, commitment and belief in the Jarvis business and its employees never wavered and he has succeeded in bringing together an experienced leadership team with which to take the company forward. I cannot speak too highly of our respect for him and appreciation of his quite unique contribution to our survival and subsequent success. He leaves a legion of friends at every level within the business and we are united in wishing him every success in his new role. "I am delighted that Alan's work will be continued by Richard Entwistle who has already demonstrated his leadership capabilities. As well as focusing the company's strategy on controlled growth opportunities, such as our entry into the freight market, Richard is committed to delivering the safest, most innovative and highest quality products and services to our customers. "I am confident that Richard will chart a successful course for our continued recovery and growth." The Board of Jarvis plc does not plan to appoint a new Chief Operating Officer at this time.
