Educated at Birmingham University, Elizabeth spent her early career as a lecturer and community worker before becoming chief executive of the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureau. In 1988 she became Deputy Chief Executive of the London Docklands Development Corporation, a post she held until 1992. In 1993 she was appointed Adjudicator for the Inland Revenue, following it up with the same role for the Customs & Excise and subsequently to the DSS Contributions Agency in the UK and Northern Ireland. In 1999, Elizabeth became Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, a role she held until 2002. A former member of the Audit Commission, Elizabeth is currently Deputy Chairman of the FSA Regulatory Decisions Committee. Elizabeth was appointed to the Board in August 2003. She is the Senior Independent Director and member of the Audit, Remuneration and Nomination Committees. |
